Juniors (Girls 8-17)
OC Junior Roller Girls began in 2006 as another adventure of the OC Roller Girls. We loved roller derby and young skaters kept asking to play. In 2011, our juniors helped build our banked track and made their banked track debut at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Our Juniors are led on the track by Coach Phoenix and friends. Our Juniors are supported off the track by parents, volunteers and members of Orange County’s adult league, the OC Roller Girls.
In 2012, our juniors became members of the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA), a public non-profit educational and amateur sports organization that is dedicated to advancing the sport of roller derby.
We share JRDA’s mission to nurture bold self confidence in youth by developing teamwork and athletic ability while treasuring individuality within a culture of integration, encouragement and service to others.
Junior members, after passing a safety skills test are able to skate most open sessions hosted by the OC Roller Girls. Practices are scheduled weeknights and weekend mornings. Additional private lessons may also be arranged directly with the coaches. Juniors are listed under Junior Fresh Squeeze (newer) or Slice Girls (bouting team).
Practices available are based on skills.
Most games are played on a Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon as part of the OC Roller Girls schedule. Games are usually held monthly either at home or a nearby league. There is also opportunity for skaters to attend training camps, away games and tournaments.
